The Ultimate Shoe Closet

BEFORE SHOE CLOSETS:

The Ultimate Shoe Closet How To:
I have the most wonderful boyfriend ever!  He clearly saw the need for my shoes to have a home of their own, that and he was tired of looking at them strewn across the floor and stacked on tables.  So the project began to develop shoe cabinets with LED lighting, because I don't know about you, but I have a hard time seeing into dark areas.  A little grove was made in the top of each level to house the LED light strips which were soldered into a power pack and then connected to a foot switch.  I just have to tap the switch and wa-lah we have lights.  I can't tell you how happy I am with these.  They just make me smile.  It's almost as if I am living in a Nordstrom's where I don't have to pay for any of the shoes.

If you would like to see how we constructed these please click here.  The cost to make you own runs about $200-$250, which includes the plywood, backer board, electrical components and paint.  The labor to make these is pretty extensive so you can understand why when buying one pre made it costs $800 or so.  Please email me through my "About" page if you have other questions on this project.

  1. Great DIY project. Also, from time to time I see women's shoe boxes with a Photo of the shoes on the outside of box, ideal for overflow so you can know whats in any box without opening it.

  2. Bob, I agree with that idea completely. I have yet to do it though, but it needs to happen. I currently have a 3x3 cubby that houses cloth bins that my shoe boxes go into. It right now is like Christmas ever time I open a bin because I can't remember what is in each one.
