Milly Floral

When: Tuesday, July 16th, since this dress is so light, airy and feminine and it was going to be a hot day.

I am a sucker for flower prints, so I about fell over when I found this Milly dress in my size at Nordstrom Rack about 2 months ago.  My size in Milly is larger than my normal size, if normal can be defined anymore in the fashion realm, but I'm over that now.  You see, you have to keep an open mind when trying clothing on and the more open you are to trying things that are not your size typically, the more options you will allow yourself when it comes to finding something that you love.  So please I beg you, try on that J. Crew sweater that says XL if you're a small or medium, it could fit great as a dress with a colorful belt or be used as a really slouchy sweater to keep you warm in the winter with leggings and those sorrels you've hidden in the back of your closet for the summer.  I'm just saying...keep an open mind and tell the sizing idiots to stuff it, because that size number shouldn't be tied to your self worth!

The Weekend

When: Saturday, July 13th at the Denver Design Incubator where great fashion minds go to work.

I adore these three colors together as you can see me wearing them here as well.  So, it's no surprise I try to coordinate hot pink, navy blue and white on a regular basis.  I may get tired of these colors at some point, sort of like that peanut butter and jelly sandwich phase you went through as a child for about 6 months.  Then it's on to the next new thing.  I am  hopeful for the new next things in life, as the old and tired things aren't working at the moment.  I'll let you know how that goes, in the meantime, happy Monday!

Pink Leather Skirt

When: 4th of July weekend at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.  Save yourself the trouble and skip this event in the future.

This Adam Lippes skirt, which I found buried in the sale rack at Nordstrom Rack last fall, was something I wouldn't have normally tried on.  Once I did though I fell in love with it, except for one thing.  The skirt was a mini and a size 10, which was 2 sizes too big for me, however I noticed that letting it sit lower on the hips instead of at the waist made it seem more "adult" if you will.  Not the 40 something flashy trying to recoup those college days, if you understand what I am saying.  So keeping in mind that the length was great, but the hip area now made me look like I had wings, I decided to ask alterations if they could do their magic.  Unfortunately Nordstrom Rack does not have a leather sewing machine available to alter clothes, so I had to go to a specialist.  The alteration cost was about $60, but I couldn't be happier.  It just goes to show that if you keep an open mind about what things can become, they do!

Fall 2013 Pantone - Acai

When: Monday, June 24th.  I'm behind, but what's new?

Brace yourselves, deep purple, or as the pantone police have dubbed it, Acai, is one of the big fashionable colors for Fall 2013.  I know, this might be traumatic for you, and for myself, since your having flashbacks to high school when purple seemed to rule every girls wardrobe.  I'm certain I have brought you to a place you now want to run screaming from, but don't.  Acai really does work in small doses and with several other colors, as you can see above.  Pinks or cream and even black work well depending on how bold you want to go with this statement color.

On a side note, this Coach Willis handbag is truly purple, however when I saw it and drooled over it in the store, it looked more black to me.  I could be becoming color blind, but I think the handbag takes on its own depth depending on what colors you wear with it.  I definitely hope this clears up that traumatic issue you had with purple!  Hope you have a great Monday!
