Blush Too

When: Last weekend, to a much needed hair do over appointment and walking about downtown.

Remember when you were in grade school and you had that one item of clothing that you wanted to wear day in and day out and the next day to?  I hope you do, because you may also remember that it was a huge taboo to wear something two days in a row.  Well, you're an adult now, you can do whatever you want to with your clothing choices.  And, that is why I decided that this particular silk shirt was so airy, light and a bit more elevated than a t-shirt, that I would wear it on the weekend to.  And that is what I did Saturday.  

There was a slight nagging voice in my head waving a tsk, tsp, tsk finger at me, but I had the sense to put it right back where it belonged, in that closet full of doubters and less than's where it will stay.  So just remember your an adult now, no one else can tell you how to dress.  So dress the way that make you feel your best & have a great weekend.

When: Last Friday, when the heat arrived finally!  Summer has officially begun albeit a little late.

I stalked these heels for some time at one of the higher end consignment stores in Boulder, Common Threads.  The not so high heels were $90 when I first looked at them, along with a pair of twisted Louboutin flats that caught my eye.  I put both on hold for 24 hours and then went to do some research at home.  The flats were listed for $99, so all things being equal it came down to which one I would wear more often and what was the better value.  The twisted flats were selling on Ebay for about $200, while the Jimmy Choo's were $595 and fairly new.  You can see which ones ended up coming home with me the next day for only $80 as they had been marked down!  Score for me!  

Searching for items that you don't know the name for can be a bit challenging.  It is best to start with the obvious, say glitter pumps for the Jimmy Choo's or twisted, cut out, or box toe for the Louboutin flats.  Another idea that often works well is going directly to the brands' site to see what they call each type of shoe they sell.  You may gain new insight on words that will benefit your online search.  Happy researching!

Modern Wedge

When: Last week, warm as it was and then I realized you are either going to love or hate these shoes.

Ever since I walked into Two Sole Sisters shoe boutique and saw these Rapisardi platform sandals I have been on the hunt for something similar.  Wouldn't you know it my size, 7, was completely sold out.  I was quite dismayed, however as luck would have it a similar and very comfortable version of it popped up at Nordstrom Rack.

These Charles by Charles David low wedges are literally every shorter girls' dream come true.  You see as it is a 3 inch heel technically there is a 1 1/4 inch platform, which makes the heel just about 2 inches.  Total comfort, and the only downfall of these is that the elastic on the heel sometimes rides a little low (see above).  The cushy footbed though makes up for this oversight in design.  These are a pair of wedges you definitely don't need to wear in, you can just wear them out and about, wherever you like.

Silk Necessity

When:  Last week when it was pants weather.  Pants weather needs to end now, so dress season can commence.

Silk, I believe, has to be one of the most comfortable and luxurious fabrics around and it has an amazing amount of versatility within each season.  In the Summer months, which still haven't arrived here yet unfortunately, silk can be a lifesaver.  It has the ability to wick moisture away, which keeps you dry and well, not sweaty.  Also, if you've ever been wearing a long shirt on a hot day you know how uncomfortable it can get, however a solid silk shirt allows the summer breeze to blow right through and cool you off.  Or you could just go stand right smack in front of the air conditioner for about two seconds and you'll freeze over pretty well. I highly recommend Equipment Femme blouses and you can find them on sale frequently through Neimen Marcus Last Call or Hautelook. 

Silk works very well as a base layer in the winter months (gasp, we shall not speak of those).  This is one of the reasons you may find silk woven into winter layers, like these art deco ones by Neve Designs, since it is such a great heat conductor for skiing or other outdoor sports, if you like that kind of thing.  But the other thing that silk scarves do for you in the winter is save you from that bitter cold that whips around and smacks you in the face as if to say, "Summer is never coming, ha, ha, ha."  Summer must come soon, or I'll have to start piling on scarves on top of shirts to keep warm and it won't be pretty.

Shopping in the Off Season

If you're wondering how on earth I managed to buy an Equipment sweater for less than $200 I'll share a secret with you - I buy in the Spring/Summer for Fall/Winter.  I know you don't want to even think about Winter in Summer, but your wallet will thank you, if you do.  Plus, it's always fun to pull out brand new items you haven't worn before for the upcoming season when you are switching out those shorts for sweaters. Shopping in the heat of Summer is also how I landed these Sorel boots, which are normally $220, for $80. Is there anything you have found for an amazing deal in the off season?  Tell me here!
